Developing tomorrows Project Managers: We have recenty been heavily involved in the design of a development exercise which sees us working with potential Project Managers equipping them with the technical and people management skills needed to successfully deliver projects in an IT environment. This is a new area for us and has proved both fascinating and exhilerating in equal measure. As one delegate said "I would have thought twice about coming on the programme had I know beforehand that it would be a lot about my 'soft' skills. I'm so glad I did. I had totally under-estimated how vital my people management skills are in my job and how much I could learn".
We are delighted to announce that we are working with our new client Causeway, the construction software people, on a major management and leadership exercise. Subscribe to our newsletter, below right, and let us keep you up-to-date with how the project progresses.
Paul King spends time with participants on the Prince's Trust 'Team' development programme
"On a personal note, following my appointment as a volunteer progression mentor attached to the Trust I thoroughly enjoyed running mock interviews for some of the young people on the Team Programme.
"After the interview each interviewee was helped to review the experience and take on-board the learning that they could take into the real job interviews that they were lining-up. After the interviews we ran a general discussion about being interviewed and picked-out pointers for everyone to remember.
"I'm grateful to the organisers for the chance to get involved in this amazing project."
Since the beginning of June we have been heavily involved with a project for our client FGA Capital, the UK finance arm of the Fiat Auto Group who invited us to work with them in the developmental support of the 28 key members of their sales and marketing teams. The assignment was primarily about assisting these people to undertake a rigorous personal development planning exercise. However, it was timed to also significantly support the integration of Jaguar and Land Rover financial services people into the business which was happening at that time.
In short we ran a series of two day development centres with each participant getting one to one attention from a business coach who supported them during and after the centre to the point when they had a personal development plan that they could share with the line manager.
More information about exactly how we approached the assignment can be found under case studies.
